San Juan - El alcalde de San Sebastián, Javier Jiménez, favoreció una medida que crearía en su municipio del centro Zooterapéutico de Puerto Rico.    El proyecto, del representante Eric Alfaro Calero, dispone que el centro operará principalmente para ofrecer servicios de salud y será administrado en consorcio con el municipio de San Sebastián y la Compañía de Parques Nacionales de Puerto Rico.    La intención del proyecto, según Alfaro Calero, es “propiciar y fomentar su uso como centro de terapias para niños que padecen discapacidades relacionadas con el sistema nervioso central, especialmente con autismo, también personas depresivas, estresadas e incluso con embarazadas, entre otros; además, como parque turístico, recreativo y laboratorio científico”.    “El proyecto de la Cámara 3563 representa el primer paso a hacerles justicia a los niños que padecen de algún tipo de discapacidad o limitación para romper las barreras que le limitan la oportunidad de vivir una vida más plena”, expresó, por su parte, Jiménez.     San Sebastián es uno de los pueblos con mayor índice de niños con necesidades especiales tiene alrededor de 1,800 niños diagnosticados con alguna condición que afecta su desarrollo físico, mental o emocional. Esta cifra, sumada a los de la región educativa, representa un total de 5,433 niños, y 108,743 niños con necesidades especiales en la isla.    La Legislatura deberá identificar fondos para la construcción de la instalación, pues Jiménez reconoció que el municipio no cuenta con los recursos económicos.
